Building sealants can be classified according to different methods, such as structural sealants and non-structural sealants mentioned above. This is a classification method, which is classified according to strength requirements and application occasions.
The more commonly used classification method is to classify by chemical composition. According to the chemical composition of the basic compound used for sealant, sealant can be divided into polysulfide, polyurethane, silicone, neoprene, butyl rubber and acrylic rubber. At present, silicone, polyurethane and polysulfide are widely used in the market.
Building sealants are classified into one-component and two-component packaging according to the packaging methods. One-component packaging is to mix all the raw materials that make up the sealant, seal it in plastic bottles or flexible aluminum films, and use a glue gun to punch the products out of the packaging. Two-component packaging consists of two components, A and B. Generally speaking, component A is the base rubber and component B is the curing agent. Fillers and other additives are added to component A and component B as required. When in use, the components A and B should be evenly mixed by special mechanical equipment (two-component gumming machine) according to the specified ratio, and the components A and B will undergo chemical reaction and cure, so neither the single component A nor the single component B can be used.
Sealants can be classified into chemical reaction type, solvent volatilization type and heat capacity cold setting type according to their curing characteristics. Silicone sealants belongs to chemical reaction type.
